GSM activated Vending machines and Park Meters made with DPS-Promatic TCS-LC

Omnitel Vodafone, one of Italy's biggest GSM operators with over 10 million customers, made a big hit at SMAU 2001 in Milan presenting machines that really work with GSM payment done with their Omnipay platform. The electronics involved in this was made by DPS-Promatic.

It has become customary to see demos of how someone can buy a drink using her or his phone at a show. What was shown this year at the Omnitel Vodafone stand at SMAU 2001 in Milan was the real thing. It was possible to buy a drink with an SMS and deduct the amount from the Omnipay prepaid card. There was also a Park Meter issuing a usual time-out ticket to be placed inside a car, whose name was OmniPark, that could be activated sending an SMS with the amount to pay. All the electronics managing these payments was done by DPS-Promatic and was based on the TCS-LC boards. The Park Meter has been designed by Massimo Portolani and has been engineered and manufactured by DPS-Promatic, thanks to the know-how acquired in 20 years of manufacturing ticket printing machines.
