The MFP58 Flash programmer made by DPS-Promatic allows easy programming of the firmware of most DPS-Promatic products. It consists of a easy to carry compact unit, that stores in its flash memory files in hex format, that can be downloaded from a PC. Once the software is in the MFP58, it can be detatched and used to program many units.
Procedure to upgrade firmware with the MFP58 is very simple:
  • 1-Download the upgrade from our web site or receive it by e-mail
  • 2-Launch the Flash-it application, supplied with the MFP58 flash programmer
  • 3-Choose the COM port where you have connected the MFP58 unit (it must be free and not in use by any other application)
  • 4-Open the HEX file you have downloaded or received by e-mail
  • 5-Erase the flash of the MFP58
  • 6-Program the new software into the flash eprom
  • 7-Detatch the unit
  • 8-Connect the flat cable connector to the provided connector in the DPS-Promatic board that you wish to upgrade.
  • 9-Remove the jumpers from the 'NORMAL OPERATION' position and put them into the 'PROGRAM MODE'
  • 10-Power the board with main power (no battery only power for TCS boards)
  • 11-Press the Program Start Button
  • 12-Wait until the transfer and programming is over
  • 13-Remove the connector
  • 14-Put the jumpers in the 'NORMAL OPERATION' position
  • 15- The unit has been upgraded

  • MFP58 Flash Eprom programmer

    LED functions:
  • READY: green LED, will flash while the MFP58 is ON
  • F1: red LED, will flash while the MFP58 is writing on the external (target) processor on the board that you are upgrading
  • F2: red LED, will flash while the MFP58 is reading or writing its internal Flash Eprom
  • F3: red LED, will flash while the MFP58 is receiving data from the PC via the serial interface

  • MFP58 select COM port screen

When you launch the Flash-IT application, you will be asked to choose the COM port to which you have attached the MFP58 unit. Please make sure the port is free and no other application is using it. This is almost always a caus of problems since some appplications used in the past may have not been removed and are still keeping the port busy.

    MFP58 main screen

    Use the main screen to:
  • 1- Load the file, in HEX format, that is a firmware upgrade for your DPS-Promatic board and that you have either received from us or you have downloaded from our SUPPORT pages
  • 2- Connect to the MFP58 programmer, that you had previously attached to your PC and powered up
  • 3- Erase from the Flash Eprom any previously written file
  • 4- Store the rpogram code into the flash eprom of the MFP58
  • 5- The leds 2 and 3 will start flashing and you will see the transfer progress on the PC screen
  • 6- Once the transfer has finished you may detach the MFP58 unit and take it to the destination board. Note: Once data have been stored in the Flash Eprom, they stay there for 10 years or more, unless you erase them.
